Owner's Description

Pittsburgh, PA The Metropolitan NB Ch. # (E)2279 PMG 20 $20 1902 DB Fr. 649a Teehee | Burke SN 2843/N601391B pp A/270 dtd. June 2, 1915. From the Mike Coltrane Collection. Mike amazingly owned two Fr. 649a rarities, the Minneapolis (710) in PMG 25 sold for $2160 with an estimate of $2-3k. The Metropolitan NB issued large only and for a brief period series of 1902 DBs and PBs, 10s and 20s only, until liquidated 7/25/1924. Only 4000 sheets of 3x$10-$20 DBs made in 1915. There are four known for Fr 649a, and this example has a desirable Tom Flynn pedigree. The note saw circulation, but is in a comment-free holder. Purple stamped signatures of H.(Harry) B. Stewart, Cashier and W.J. Zahniser, President. Ex: Lyn Knight, December 2009, lot 1059; Heritage's 2008 CSNS sale, lot 13361 from the Thomas M. Flynn sale.
