Owner's Description

Pick 15, a new 1 livre and the first issue from the "Banque de Syrie et du Liban". Back side showing the Lebanese mountains and cedars. This note has an unusual watermark: a legendary Apkallu bird. This bird was found in the city of Nimrud (Iraq today). One theory for this blunder is that the printers were ready to print Iraqi notes, but the agreement got cancelled. The printer decided to use the sheets with the Iraqi watermark for Lebanese banknotes instead to save money! Same watermark was used for the 5 Livres, pick 16, below, in addition to picks 48 and 49.
