Owner's Description

France. Treasury banknotes. Territories occupied after 1918. Memel. 1922 Issue. 100 Mark Type 1922 Memel Notgeld. (Ref. Pick: # 9, TBB: # B109, Rosenberg: # 854, Grabowski: # MEM-9 or Kolsky: # 172). Dimensions: 187 x 115 mm. Banknote dated February 22, 1922. Watermark: Outline chain pattern (Konturen Kette). Printer: Parcis, Munich. Front and back: multicolored print with dominant bistre, gray and blue on the front and blue and bistre on the back. Description of the front: gray frame with repeating graphic patterns and rosettes. Burgundy and blue security background composed of wavy patterns with a large rosette in the center containing the coat of arms of the town of Memel. All texts are printed in black. The value in figures is printed in white at the corners. The five-digit banknote number is printed at the top right. In the center, the words "Notgeld der Handelskammer des Memelgebiets (Emergency banknotes from the Chamber of Commerce of the Memel country)". Below, the value in Gothic letters "Hundert Mark" and the words "Ungültig drei Monate nach Abruf (without value 3 months after the end of the issue)". Six signatures are affixed in the center of the post: G. Petisné, Joseph Kraus, Berhnard Hennig, Dr. F.J. Meier, Paul Schulz & Nathan Nafthal. Below, the words in French: "Authorized: Memorial, February 22, 1922 The High Commissioner Representative of the Allied Powers". The name of the printer is shown in the center outside of the frame "GEBR." PARCUS MÜNCHEN ”. Description of the back: floral frame with a general view of the town of Memel. In the upper part, a white banner with the word Memel printed in black. At the bottom, a white cartouche containing the value in letters "Hundert Mark" and the value "100" is repeated in coats of arms on the sides. No specimen known for this note.
