Owner's Description

Pick 30, 50 Livres with a rhombus overprint. The 50 Livres was the highest denomination of the 1939-dated series, printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company. These 50 Livres were printed during WWII in London, and marked with different geometric shapes to allow authorities to cancel them if the enemy got hold of the notes. The banknotes are dated 1 September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland. They were put in circulation (with overprints) in 1942 and 1943. Front showing Via Recta street in Damascus, back showing boats sailing near Sarafand south of Saida, Lebanon.
