Owner's Description
100 lei 1966 was used from 1966 to 1992, one of the longest series in circulation in modern times. The Banknote has a nice guilloche design with Romania coat of arms, on the front is illustrated the portrait of Nicolae Balcescu, a Romanian Wallachian soldier, historian, journalist, and leader of the 1848 Wallachian Revolution. On the back is illustrated the gorgeous Romanian Athenaeum, which charms with its imposing grandeur and meticulous design by the French architect, Albert Galleron, which skillfully blended French neoclassical and ancient Greek architectural influences to create a visually stunning landmark. The banknote size is 153 x 75 mm, was issued on paper with rhombuses pattern watermark by the National Bank of Romania. The series ranges from 0002 to 0242. The first series were issued with narrow letter in the prefix, later, a wide letter was used. The banknote included in the set is using wide letter C. The banknote is graded 67 EPQ, it is a second-best grade (Top Pop is 68EPQ). Personal Note: This was the most common banknote kept for savings by the Romanian population.
