Owner's Description

50 lei 1966 was used from 1966 to 1992, one of the longest series in circulation in modern times. The Banknote has a nice guilloche design with Romania coat of arms, on the front is illustrated the portrait of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the first domnitor (ruler) of the Romanian Principalities through his double election as prince of Moldavia on 5 January 1859 and prince of Wallachia on 24 January 1859, which resulted in the unification of the two states; he was a prominent figure of the Revolution of 1848 in Moldavia. On the back is illustrated the Palace of Culture in Iasi, an astonishing architecture in a flamboyant Neo-Gothic style. The banknote size is 145 x 72 mm, was issued on paper with rhombuses pattern watermark by the National Bank of Romania. The series ranges from 0003 to 0067; Due to relatively small number of issued banknotes, the 50 lei banknote is the second most wanted in the 1966 series. The specimen notes have prefix 0000 with narrow letter. The overprinted word SPECIMEN is using serif font. This banknote is graded 66 EPQ, (the Top Pop is graded 68EPQ). Personal Note: This note was kept in an album issued for bank managers and other officials.
