Owner's Description

Maryland $2 2/3 MD-87 PMG VF25: December 7, 1775 Resolution Set #10 / 5th Series to use Dollar Denomination

The MD-87 $2 2/3 Dollar denomination is somewhat unusual and scarce Note. The size and style of this Resolutions Notes is smaller than the previous issues from Maryland. The front (obverse) is not as ornate and lacks the detailed Maryland seal.

Maryland issued this unique denomination four times over the course of five years starting with the “Gunpowder Series” MD-75 in July of 1775, the second time with this December 1775 Resolution, a third time with the MD-99 of the August 1776 Resolution and finally, the four time with the MD-111 of the June 1780 Act.

The reverse of the MD-87 has an emblem and shield bearing the motto “SUB-CLYPEO PEO,” which translates to (Under Divine Protection). PMG has graded only 19 of these specimens, with 7 as VF25 and only four (4) in higher grade. This VF25 specimen is attractive, problem free and reasonably clean, which makes it a nice addition to this specialized type set.
