* While these certificates were withdrawn from use in Hawaii in April 1946, they are still legal tender. Silver Certificates, though, have not been redeemable for silver since June 24, 1968


SIGNS OF THE TIME

William A. Julian was the 28th Treasurer of the United States, serving from June 1, 1933 until his death on May 29, 1949. He was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued into the administration of President Harry S. Truman.

Henry Morgenthau, Jr. was the 52nd Secretary of the Treasury, serving from January 1, 1934 to July 22, 1945. He was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued into the administration of President Harry S. Truman.
