NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE

As Secretary of the Treasury, Fred M. Vinson’s signature appears on the notes of this series. Before serving as Treasury Secretary, Vinson was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Kentucky (D-KY). Immediately following his tenure at Treasury, Vinson was appointed the Chief Justice of the United States, making him one of a very few people to serve in all three branches of government.


SIGNS OF THE TIME

This series features a Julian/Vinson signature combination.

William A. Julian was the 28th Treasurer of the United States, serving from June 1, 1933 until his death on May 29, 1949. He was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued into the administration of President Harry S. Truman.

Fred M. Vinson was the 53rd Secretary of the Treasury, serving from July 23, 1945 to June 23, 1946. He was appointed by President Harry S. Truman.
