Owner's Description

This Venezuela specimen note represents the 1996 Banco Central de Venezuela 5000 Bolívares, cataloged by PMG as Pick #75bs and certified Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.

The note features a strong portrait of Simón Bolívar at right, with the Venezuelan coat of arms and ornate multicolor security engraving surrounding the design. The large 5000 denomination appears prominently at center and in the corners, making this one of the more visually powerful high-denomination Bolívar-era specimen notes.

As an official specimen, this example carries the all-zero serial number format 00000000, a bold red diagonal “ESPECIMEN SIN VALOR” overprint, and PMG notes the watermark as S. Bolívar. The printed issue date on the face is Marzo 14, 1996.

The 66 EPQ grade confirms this as a high-quality Gem Uncirculated example with exceptional paper quality, strong originality, sharp detail, and excellent overall presentation. As a 5000 Bolívares specimen, it represents the rising denomination structure of Venezuela’s 1990s currency system before the country’s later hyperinflationary period.

This note is an important addition to the Planet Banknote Venezuela Specimen Collection: Bolívar to Bolívar Digital, documenting Venezuela’s transition from traditional Bolívar issues into the higher-denomination era that foreshadowed the major monetary changes to come.
