Owner's Description

New Haven, CT The Second NB Ch. # 227 Fr. 466 Bruce | Gilfillan $5 1882 BB Fr. 466 PMG 25 SN 32413/M544623 pp D/23 dated Feb. 25th, 1883. An attractive $5 Brown Back from this New Haven bank with an interesting title layout. It is just the fifth example of this type and denomination to be reported and is a solid, well margined PMG Very Fine 25 with pleasing color. Dark penned signatures of Chas. A. Sheldon, Cashier and S. (Samuel) Hemmingway, President. In 1899, Hemmingway replaced long-serving president Arthur D. Osborne.
