Owner's Description

Ex-Philpott Technicolor $20. The note originally comes from a small run with serial numbers that begin with A4043xx that William Philpott purchased from a friend who had worked at the Treasury Department. I purchased the note in PCGS45 and crossed it to PMG45. It appears uncirculated, as you would expect. It was an acquisition by the previous owner at a 1987 Hickman & Oakes auction. It is the plated example on page 142 of the Chambliss-Hessler reference. This note, in my opinion, represents tremendous value for money. 404316< is the "lowest graded" from the uncirculated Philpott run, with one other 55 and two 58's. The 55 sold for $27600 in 2007, and the 58's sold for $18800 and $30550 in 2014 and 2015. The remaining notes in this 44 (?) note run are all 64-67 PPQ/EPQ.
