Owner's Description

This limited commemorative edition polymer release was dated 2009 but actually released into circulation on the 16th of September 2010.

The banknote was released to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Banco Central de Nicaragua (Nicaraguan Central Bank). It is the only banknote that I am aware of that Nicaragua had released that features a vertical rather than horizontal design.

This particular note is the replacement/star note which features an R before the serial number.

The obverse features the former Central Bank headquarters, a building that was destroyed by the devastating earthquake that destroyed a large part of Managua in December 1972. This same design was used in the 2 Cordoba note from 1972.

The rear of the note features the Somoza Canyon a picturesque tourist destination in the Northern part of the country.

As at October 2020 there were a total of 13 replacement notes graded. This one being in equal highest grade with 5 other notes with 7 notes graded in 66 EPQ. With the regular issue there is a total of 111 notes graded which I believe to be the highest number of Nicaraguan notes graded for a single type. With notes graded from 64 EPQ through to 3 examples which scored 70 EPQ the only Nicaraguan note to receive a perfect score! In my 2nd set you will see a 68 EPQ regular issue note.
