Owner's Description

Issued as part of the Nicaraguan monetary reforms from 1940. This new issue 1942 10 Cordobas was the first in the series, followed by later emissions in 1945 and 1951. The note was to use the same characteristics as the previous 1939 issue with one main difference was dropping the English words National Bank of Nicaragua Incorporated along the top border of the note. As then president Anasastio Somoza Garcia had since nationalised the bank.

The emission of the 1942 banknotes was issued through an Executive Decree # 84 on the 23 of September 1942, authorising the issuance of 10 million Cordobas in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50 & 100. There was 300,000 Ten Cordoba notes issued and were placed into circulation under two decrees. The first 50,000 notes from serial numbers 000001 to 050000 through decree # 60 on the 5th of April 1943, and the following 250,000 notes from 050001 through to 300000 under decree # 70 on the 11th of June 1943.

The obverse features the effigy of possibly a roman woman, and the reverse features the national coat of arms.
