Owner's Description

These all new series A 10 Cordobas Oro banknotes were produced by De La Rue, in an emission that used multiple companies to produce the banknotes creating a mixed design release across the different denominations.

From what I have seen I estimate there was 16 million banknotes produced for this emission. The first decree was for an order of 6 million banknotes, then a subsequent emission created a variation with both a different signature and an extra digit in the serial number. The serial numbers above 6 million are 8 digits with a different signature as I believe a further order of 10 million notes was made.

This particular note is from the first emission and is a low 3 digit (101) binary serial number example.

This same design would be carried forward for the 1996 Series B and 1999 Series D issues.

The obverse of the banknotes feature Miguel Larreynaga who was a Nicaraguan lawyer and writer but more well known for his part in Central America gaining independence from Spain. He travelled together with a group to Spain to ask the Spanish Monarchy for independence in 1818. And he was present at the drafting and signing of the Central American Independence Act celebrated in Guatemala City on the 15th of September 1821. Miguel also featured on previous 10 Cordoba banknotes from 1953 through to 1968.

The reverse of the banknote shows the National coat of arms.
