Owner's Description

These 1979 500 Cordobas banknotes were authorised under the executive decree # 63 on the 30th of August 1979 shortly after the Somoza government had collapsed and the Sandinistas had taken power. There was 2 million produced from 0000001 through to 2000000. This particular example is a low serial number but I actually have a lower double digit banknote within my collection # 20 that is yet to be certified.

These notes continue the same design from the previous 1972 500 Cordobas P127 however they were black whilst this new note features a bright blue background. It has the same effigy of legendary Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario on the obverse who had now been featured on the 500 Cordobas notes since their inception in 1945, and through to the issues in the 1980s. He would be then featured on the 1000 Cordoba banknote in 2016. There is a view of the Ruben Dario National Theatre in Managua on the reverse.
