Owner's Description

France. Treasury banknotes. Territories occupied after 1918. Memel. 1922 Issue. 75 Mark Type 1922 Memel Notgeld. (Ref. Pick: # 8, TBB: # B108, Rosenberg: # 853, Grabowski: # MEM-8 or Kolsky: # 171). Dimensions: 165 x 115 mm. Banknote dated February 22, 1922. Watermark: Outline chain pattern (Konturen Kette). Printer: Parcis, Munich. Front and back: multicolored print with dominant pink and blue on the front and yellow and blue on the back. Description of the front: brown frame with repeating graphic patterns. Pink and blue security background composed of wavy patterns with a large rosette in the center containing the coat of arms of the town of Mémel. All texts are printed in black. The value in figures is printed in black in the corners. The five-digit banknote number is printed at the top right. In the center, the words "Notgeld der Handelskammer des Memelgebiets (Emergency banknotes from the Chamber of Commerce of the Mémel country)". Below, the value in Gothic letters "Fünfundsiebzig Mark" and the words "Ungültig drei Monate nach Abruf (not worth 3 months after the end of the issue)". Six signatures are affixed in the center of the post: G. Petisné, Joseph Kraus, Berhnard Hennig, Dr. F.J. Meier, Paul Schulz & Nathan Nafthal. Below, the words in French: "Authorized: Memel, February 22, 1922 The High Commissioner Representative of the Allied Powers". The name of the printer is shown in the center outside of the frame "GEBR." PARCUS MÜNCHEN ”. Back description: floral frame with two frames in which the new sawmill on the left (Neues Sägewerk) and on the right, the old sawmill with a windmill and a pile of wood (Altes Sägewerk) are represented. In the upper part, a white banner with the word Memel printed in black. At the bottom, a white cartouche containing the mention “Notgeld der Handelskammer” and in the center, the value “75 Mark” in gray and black. The bill is known without numbering and punched "UNGÜLTIG (CANCELLED)". No specimen known for this note.
