Owner's Description
Merrimac, MA The First NB Ch. # 268 PMG 30EPQ $5 1902 PB Fr. 598 SN 12816 pp E dtd. Feb. 25, 1903. This Essex County charter operated first as the First National Bank of Amesbury before later changing its name to the First National Bank of Merrimac. The census records no known notes from the first title while just six large size notes and nine small size are known from the bank's second title. This pleasing $5 Plain Back features bold stamped signatures of W.B. Sargent, Cashier and Byrin H. Sargent, President as well as bright, moderately circulated paper that was easily deserving of the grading service's assigned EPQ designation.
