Owner's Description

Somerville, MA The Somerville NB Ch. # (N)4771 VG Edge Damage $5 1902 DB Fr. 593 SN 1/H647917A pp C dtd. June 15, 1912. HA sold this as a VG 8 Net Edge damage 3 times realizing between $516-$1080. The stamped signatures of J. (Joseph) E. Gendron, Cashier and J.O. Hayden, President have survived exceptionally well given the toll the rest of note has taken surviving commerce in this Middlesex County (Kelly lists incorrectly as Suffolk) locale. This is the only serial number 1 example, large or small, that is known from the only issuer in town. Somerville is home to Tufts University, which has its campus along the Somerville and Medford border.
