Owner's Description

The January 14, 1779 emission contains eight unique denominations. These denominations are typically more difficult to locate with about 60 examples of each denomination receiving grades from PMG. About half of the graded bills are in AU or better condition, and uncirculated examples exist for all of the bills.

The $55 has an image of The sun coming out after a storm. with the Latin motto, “Post Nubila Phoebus”, which translates to English as, “After dark clouds comes the sun”. This bill was signed by Thomas Edison and George Bond.

PMG has graded about sixty January 14, 1779, CC-98 bills with 50% receiving a grade of AU or better and 10% receiving an uncirculated grade. The January 14, 1779 $55 are the 88th rarest of the 102 bills in the series.
