Owner's Description

There was two separate executive decrees authorising the issuance of the 1972 series C banknotes. The first decree # 73 -MEIC on the 26th of April 1972 authorised 1,500,000 20 Cordobas notes from 0000001 - 1500000. The second decree # 76-MEIC on the 13th of March 1974 authorised a further 2 million banknotes from serial numbers 1500001 - 3500000.

The obverse of the banknotes feature Rafaela Herrera a Nicaraguan heroine that helped defend the fortress of the Immaculate Conception during the battle for the Rio San Juan in 1762. The reverse of the banknote shows the ratification of the abolishment of the Bryan-Chamorro treaty originally signed with the United States in 1914. And later abolished through a meeting with president of the United States Richard Nixon and President of Nicaragua Anastasio Somoza Debayle on the 14th of July 1970.

This same design would be carried forward to the 1978 series D issue.

As at October 2020 this was the only specimen note that had been certified. And there were only 3 regular issue notes certified. 2 in grade 66 EPQ (1 of these can be found in my 2nd set) and 1 graded 65 EPQ.
