Owner's Description

Orwell, VT The First NB Ch. # 228 PMG 10 $10 1882 BB Fr. 479 SN 4824/Z700633 pp C dtd. Feb. 25th, 1883. Well circulated but this is the only $10 Brown Back reported from this long-lived Vermont bank that survived the entire note-issuing era. The ink colors remain sharp and the pen signatures of D.L. Wells, Cashier and E.E. Young, Vice President remain bold. Wells' distinctive signature found on this note produced in 1902 may also be found reproduced on Type 2 notes from 1935.
