Building on the Washington Portrait Set. Also, trying to complete the emergency currency which as I have stated, are truly important historical evidence of a turbulent era in which this country was worried that the power of the Japanese empire may actually put legal tender in danger should the Japanese occupy large amounts of the currency. The Hawaii stamp on the back is testament to the fear that should Japan occupy Hawaii, the currency could be immediately invalidated.

Surprisingly, only 163 mules have been graded. This note completes my Emergency WWII endeavor! I really think the Hawaii and North Africa notes are an incredibly special part of our history that speaks volumes about the mood of the country prior to WWII. We had to issue currency that could rapidly be nulled out of the system should the currency be captured! It should make us all thankful of the freedom we enjoy today that was earned with blood, sweat and tears by the "Greatest Generation."

I believe GEM emergency notes will retain their value. They are incredible historical evidence. These notes were basically to prevent our currency and thus our entered financial system from being compromised by issuing them in North Africa during "operation Torch" when the U.S. army first met the Nazi army in North Africa. Similarly, we issued these on the island that served as our outermost outpost in the direct route of the Empire of Japan from attacking our west coast. Thus, in a hundred or so years, these notes become more important due to the fascinating history behind these emergency notes. Paid $855.
