This series of Bearer checks represented by ZIM28 through ZIM32 only features two denominations - $50,000 (ZIM28 to ZIM30) and $100,000 (ZIM31 & ZIM32). While still and “emergency check” issue and not a banknote, these issues differed significantly from the Traveler’s Checks and Cargill Bearer Checks
ZIM28 was issued on Oct 1, 2005, where ZIM29 and ZIM30 were issued on Feb 1, 2006. I believe all three were redeemable on or before Dec 31, 2006. The ZIM29 had serial number prefixes that started with CA through CK where the ZIM28 and ZIM30 seem to have mostly had prefixes starting with an A. I haven’t been able to confirm this but the ZIM29 may have had a different printer than the P28 and P30, the printer of ZIM29 being Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) of Germany.

This 100,000 Dollar Bearer check is the final issue / pick / type of note released under the first dollar (ZWD) and it is the highest denomination released for that original Zimbabwean currency. The first redenomination removed “only” 3 zeros. The idea of having gone through and inflation so severe that the currency had lost 99.9% of its value and the denominations therefore needed to be reduced by three orders of magnitude is horrifying. For most people, especially those in developed “Western” countries like the US and the EU nations, this is practically inconceivable / unimaginable. However, the sad truth of it is that the 2nd and 3rd redenominations, which removed 10 and 12 zeros, respectively, make this monetary nightmare seem practically quaint. The 100 Billion dollar Agro Check that ended the 2nd dollar run and the 100 Trillion dollar note that ended the third dollar series make a 100,000 dollar note look cute.

While still and “emergency check” issue and not a banknote, these issues differed significantly from the Traveler’s Checks and Cargill Bearer Checks that preceded them. These “checks” were not made out to a specific person, did not have to be redeemed by that person, and did not need to be canceled.
This note is one of three that my wife and I bought as my valentine's day present in 2019.
