Philadelphia, PA The Manayunk NB Ch. # 3604 PMG 12 $5 1882 BB Fr. 469 SN 22/E140471 pp A/5 dtd. Dec. 17, 1886. A Circus Poster note, CP-1 is found on plates for only 46 banks. This example might have been received by someone unfamiliar with the design or perhaps deposited at a bank with a suspicious teller, as someone has penned in ink the date of "Aug 22, 1949" on both sides. Beautiful penned signatures of Jno. J. Foulkrod, Cashier and David Wallace, President. This is one of only five $5 Brown Backs documented from this institution and the 1st of 4 titles. Manayunk is centrally located just 15 minutes from Center City Philadelphia, King of Prussia, Chestnut Hill, and The Main Line. Nestled along the banks of the Schuylkill River and the Manayunk Canal and Tow Path, the commercial district is lined with renovated Victorian storefronts and mill buildings giving you an urban experience with small town charm. The area's name is derived from the language of the Lenape Indians (later called the Delaware Indians by Europeans). In 1686-dated papers between William Penn and the Lenape, the Lenape referred to the Schuylkill River as "Manaiung", their word for "river", which literally translates as "place to drink"; the word was later altered and adopted as the town's name.

Toms River, NJ The First NB Ch. # (E)2509 PMG 25 $5 1882 VB Fr. 574 Rotator SN 6889/T924671 pp D/160 dtd. March 4, 1901. A popular large size note from this Ocean County bank. This 1882 $5 Value Back is a far scarcer type with only an unsightly PMG VG 8 Net appearing about a decade ago. The Low family provided officers for the FNB and here you'll see legible, but slightly faded signatures of Robert H. Arney, Cashier and Henry A. Low, President (1910-1925). Henry Low was Cashier from 1896-1909, succeeding Wm. A Low who was the first Cashier starting in 1881 along with President John Aumack.

Orwell, VT The First NB Ch. # 228 PMG 10 $10 1882 BB Fr. 479 SN 4824/Z700633 pp C dtd. Feb. 25th, 1883. Well circulated but this is the only $10 Brown Back reported from this long-lived Vermont bank that survived the entire note-issuing era. The ink colors remain sharp and the pen signatures of D.L. Wells, Cashier and E.E. Young, Vice President remain bold. Wells' distinctive signature found on this note produced in 1902 may also be found reproduced on Type 2 notes from 1935.

San Francisco, CA The Wells Fargo Nevada NB Ch. # (P)5105 PMG 30 $10 1882 VB Fr. 577 Radar Treasury SN 367097/B72827 pp F/25 dtd. April 19, 1905. Ex. Gary Posner. Frank B. King, Cashier and Frederick L. Lipman, Vice President 1907...1919. PMG commented minor misalignment; bottom of the E position note shows at top due to the mis-alignment of the front to the back. A minor error on a nice radar.

Roanoke Rapids, NC The First NB Ch. # (S)5767 (1st title for Weldon, NC, 2d title for Roanoke Rapids as of 7/1/1912) PMG 25 $20 1882 VB Fr. 584 SN 4657/V489305 pp A/145 dtd. Apr. 11, 1900. Pleasant town name and a rarity that Mike Coltrane acquired in 1989. A sharp example of a very rare type and denomination for North Carolina; this piece is one of only five $20 Value Backs reported for the entire state and the only one in the census for this charter. Also, for the country, this is only the 4th Fr. 584 in Heritage's archives. ex Mike Coltrane
