Earliest of three chartered banks in the county seat of Indiana County. The borough and the region as a whole promotes itself as the "Christmas Tree Capital of the World" because the national Christmas Tree Grower's Association was founded there. There are still a large number of Christmas tree farms in the area. The largest employer in the borough today is Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Eskins, Cashier and Isaac Lowenstein, Pres. remain. This Kanawha County bank issued in excess of $13 million in National Bank Notes, more than the five other Charleston charters combined. Still, only ~45 large size notes are known to be available to collectors from this most populous city and capital of WV.
