Henry Morgenthau, Jr. was the 52nd Secretary of the Treasury, serving from January 1, 1934 to July 22, 1945. He was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued into the administration of President Harry S. Truman.

NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE
The motto “In God We Trust” was added to the back of United States Currency mid-way through the printing of this series. The "no motto" notes of this series were the last $1 notes printed without “In God We Trust”.

Elizabeth Rudel Smith was the 31st Treasurer of the United States, serving from January 30, 1961 to April 13, 1962. She was appointed by President John F. Kennedy.
