NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE
As Treasurer of the United States, Mary Ellen Withrow’s signature appears on the notes of this series. Withrow previously served as Treasurer of the State of Ohio and as Treasurer of Marion County, OH, making her the only person to have served as treasurer at the federal, state, and local levels of government.
SIGNS OF THE TIME
This series features a Withrow/Summers signature combination.
Mary Ellen Withrow was the 40th Treasurer of the United States, serving from March 1, 1994 to January 20, 2001. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton.
Lawrence H. Summers was the 71st Secretary of the Treasury, serving from July 2, 1999 to January 20, 2001. He was appointed by President Bill Clinton.

Alan Greenspan was Chairman of the Federal Reserve when this note was printed. Initially appointed by President Ronald Reagan, he worked under four presidents and served from August 11, 1987 to January 31, 2006. Greenspan served a record five terms as Fed Chairman, and his tenure was the second-longest when measured by time served in the role.

Series 2017A $1 Cleveland Star Note
NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE
Series 2017A notes have the same exact design and signatures as Series 2017 notes. Other than to say it was a “discretionary series change”, the BEP has never announced an official reason for the move to Series 2017A. However, there has been widespread reporting that the series designation was changed when the BEP began using reformulated in its printing process.
SIGNS OF THE TIME
This series features a Carranza/Mnuchin signature combination.
Jovita Carranza was the 44th Treasurer of the United States, serving from June 19, 2017 to January 14, 2020. She was appointed by President Donald Trump (first presidency).
Steven T. Mnuchin was the 77th Secretary of the Treasury, serving from February 13, 2017 to January 20, 2021. He was appointed by President Donald Trump (first presidency).
