Owner's Description

Beaver, PA Fort McIntosh NB Ch. # (E)8185 PMG 25 $10 1902 DB Fr. 617 SN 2418/H47804B pp A/267 dtd. Mar. 8, 1906 Robust inks, bright paper surfaces and a beautiful stamped signature of Robert F. Patterson, Cashier, and a completely missing signature for the President add to the appeal of this nicely centered note. President at the time was J. Sharp Wilson. Third Charters only during the large size era, with this being the finer of the two DBs known. Located on the confluence of the Beaver and Ohio Rivers in the Ohio Country in dispute during the French and Indian War, Beaver was the site of Fort McIntosh, a Revolutionary War era Patriot frontier fort. After the war, the fort was the home of the First American Regiment, the oldest active unit in the US Army. The fort was abandoned in 1788 and razed a short time later. Beaver was laid out in 1792. In 1800, it became the county seat of the newly formed Beaver County. Beaver County was carved out of Washington and Allegheny Counties in 1800, taking its name from the Beaver River. Not to be confused with Gov. James A. Beaver (Gov. of PA 1887-1891), born Oct 27, 1837 in Millerstown, PA.
