Owner's Description

The note (P185a) included in this Set is one from the initial period of Banco Central do Brazil notes and bears the overstamp in the new currency – 10 centavos of Brazilian cruzerio novos on 100 Brazilian cruzerios. The front of the note has a portrait of Dom Pedro II who was the last emperor of Brazil and reigned from 1831 (age 5!), successfully turning the fortunes of Brazil around and making her a power in the region, yet despite this positive impact he was removed by a military coup in 1889. The vignette on the back of the note represents science and the arts for which Dom Pedro II was a great patron.
