Owner's Description

The note included in this Set is a 20 pesos remainder, complete with counterfoil and radar S/N 37373 which is almost at the end of the last print run for this denomination in December 1897 (12501 to 37500). The front of the note includes a vignette of the bank building on the right which was destroyed in an earthquake in 1928, on the left is a child with a sickle and a freshly cut sheaf of wheat. The central image is a portrait of Captain Augustin Arturo Prat who was a lawyer and naval officer, and who was killed by Peruvian forces during the War of the Pacific making him a national hero. Captain Prat is commemorated throughout Chile in place names, ships of the Chilean Navy and the first Chilean Antarctic Research Station is named in his honour – the Arturo Prat base. More recently, in 1984, the Arturo Univeristy was founded. The back depicts the naval battle at Iquique in 1879 where Captain Prat lost his life.
