Owner's Description

The note represent the current Central Bank of Costa Rica is an example of the 10000 colones from 2005. The front features an image of Emma Gamboa Alvarado and is the first time a woman has featured on a bank note issued by Costa Rica in recognition for her contributions to the country. As an academic Emma Gamboa was involved in improving the education of the children of Costa Rica and was instrumental in establishing the Education Department at the University of Costa Rica. Akin to other countries in the region volcanoes are symbols of the local landscape and, as such, the centre of the note also has pictures of four volcanoes from the country. The bank of the note has two large cats native to the region – the jaguar and the puma.
