Owner's Description

A specimen note from 1936 has been selected for the Banco Central de Bolivia entry in this Set. The central vignette on the front of the note is a view of La Paz with Mount Illimani in the background. A portrait of Simon Bolivar is on the left with one of Antonio Jose de Sucre on the right. Both played pivotal roles in seeking independence from Spain across the whole region, Bolivar needs little introduction and appears on numerous notes from most of the countries involved. Some details on the exploits of Sucre can be found in the description of the Banco Internacional note from Ecuador where the currency bears his name. Although the note value is 50 Bolivanos the historical link between neighbouring countries is reflected on the back of the note where a second denomination is also included – 5 Bolivares.
