Tarentum, PA The Peoples NB Ch. # 5351 PMG 25 $20 1902 PB Fr. 659 SN 7255 pp B/1203 dtd. Apr. 4, 1920. A very scarce Allegheny County bank with only nine large size reported that are split between two titles: The NB of Tarentum being 1st. Purple stamped signatures of John P. Crawford and W.A. Marvin. Tarentum, PA is on the Allegheny R. NE of Pittsburgh. The Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Co. is just upstream. This town was named for the Greek colony of Tarentum in southern Italy that was founded in 706 B.C. by a group of Spartans.
