Owner's Description

Gp 2i Recycled original series layout Utica, NY The First NB Ch. # 1395 C* BEP Reentered and Starred Plate PMG 15 $5 1882 BB Fr. 469 Rosecrans | Jordan SN 46123/M957898 pp C*/92 dtd. June 10th, 1885. (1st title). Note is from a BEP replacement plate, as denoted by its C* plate letter. Treasury Dept. correspondence states that the banks were charged $100 for new 4-subject plates and $25 for reentered plates. The FNB started receiving Star notes after a Jul. 27, 1888 reentry of its $5 plate. Utica's Oneida NB also received a starred plate Aug. 20, 1889 on their $5-$5-$5-$5 plate. The out-of-order M block occurred after Z and T from Sep 1898-Jun 1899. It has a new NY state seal introduced for $5s Dec. 11, 1896 starting with bp 80 (bp 92 this note). This Utica bank issued large notes only with two titles, the 2d being the FNB & TC. Signatures have mostly faded, but officers were John A. Goodale, Cashier and Publius V. Rogers, President. Mike's piece is a perfect Fine note with bright color on both sides. From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
