Owner's Description

Gp 3iii Sigourney, IA The First NB Ch. # (M)1786 PMG 25Net minor staining, discoloration $5 1882 BB Fr. 471 Rosecrans | Huston SN 3861/U754929U pp B/18 PMG 5010089-009 dtd. Nov. 1, 1890. Beautiful Group 3 title block but no tombstone as is common with its later use. Sigourney is in an impressive curved font with deep shading that matches First and Iowa using the patented lettering process and thus could be associated with Gp 1. Thomas Kelly was the vice president that signed this Keokuk County bank note that is one of only three $5 Brown Backs recorded. Longtime Cashier J.R. Mackey's signature is legible, but very faded. President at the time was G.D. Woodin.
