Owner's Description:
The P-12a and P-12b are separated by one of the more subtle distinctions you can ask for or find in note varieties. They have the same year and signed by the same governor (Dr LL Tsumba)– issued at the very end of his 10-year tenure. But the P-12a has slightly larger digits used for printing the serial number than the P-12b The $1,000 note was introduced in 2003, amid inflation of roughly 600%. This was the first $1,000 note issued by Zimbabwe and it was the last note / denomination of bankno...
Owner's Description:
The $1,000 note was introduced in 2003, amid inflation of roughly 600%. This was the first $1,000 note issued by Zimbabwe and it was the last note / denomination of banknote released during the life of the 1st dollar. The 2nd dollar would not be announced until 2005 and released until 2006, however, after the release of this note, Zimbabwe stopped making regular banknotes for a time and, instead, released several series of “Emergency Checks” with various denominations. This note would be the las...

Owner's Description:
It has been a little difficult for me to precisely date these gas coupons. Some sources suggest they were around in 2004. I’ve seen a scan of at least one of these - a 20 litre AMBY coupon - that was stamped in Jun 2005. But they were definitely out and in circulation before the 2nd dollar series released and they were still present in one form or another as of mid-2008, when the 2nd redenomination and 3rd dollar was announced - Which means they both pre-dated and out-lasted the 2nd dollar beare...
Owner's Description:
The RBZ issued special traveler's checks in 2003 – the same year the $1,000 banknotes (P-12) were released. They came after the Cargill Bearer checks (P-13 and P-14) and ultimately had six denominations ranging from $1,000 (P-15) to $100,000 (P-20). The issuance of these “emergency issue” checks at least partially overlaps with the issuance of the 1st dollar banknotes, which did not end until after the 2004 issuance of the P-11b (500 ZWD) - but I know from the dates on some of these that these ...

Owner's Description:
Three months after the Cargill bearer cheques were introduced - primarily as payment instruments for cotton farmers - the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe issued its own set of bearer cheques. The 2003 bearer check series were emergency notes of the first dollar which were issued starting on 15 Sept 2003. They were in circulation until the withdrawal of the first dollar on 21 August 2006. The backs of these 2003 issues are mostly blank except for some patterning which is probably there as an anti-...
