My journey into collecting Bahraini banknotes is deeply rooted in both my passion for numismatics and my love for my country. As a proud Bahraini, I’ve always felt a strong connection to our history, culture, and national identity and our currency beautifully reflects all of that. Each note is more than just a means of exchange; it’s a piece of Bahrain’s story, told through detailed designs, iconic landmarks, and historical symbols.
What first attracted me to collecting these banknotes was the unique blend of tradition and progress that Bahrain is known for. Our notes showcase everything from traditional pearl-diving boats and historic forts to cutting-edge architecture like the Bahrain Modern Architecture. This combination reflects our country’s journey honouring the past while embracing the future.
One of my favourite notes is the 1 Dinar from the 1964 series, which features a traditional Dhow boat. To me, this design captures the spirit of our people hardworking, resilient, and proud of our maritime roots.
The most difficult note to acquire in a high grade was the 1964 issue of the 5 Dinars, the very first note issued by the Bahrain Currency Board. Due to its historical significance and limited availability in high condition, it took considerable time and effort to find a version worthy of the collection. Finally obtaining it felt like securing a piece of national history.
My goal in collecting Bahraini banknotes is to preserve and celebrate our legacy. Through this collection, I aim to build a visual archive that honours Bahrain’s cultural and economic evolution. It’s my way of expressing pride in my homeland and sharing that pride with others, whether they’re fellow collectors or simply people curious about Bahrain’s rich heritage. One day, I hope to display the collection publicly as a tribute to the beauty and story behind every Bahraini note.
