Set Description:
Pakistan introduced Haj Notes in 1950 to regulate foreign exchange and prevent currency smuggling by Pakistani pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. These special notes were overprinted with a message indicating they were exclusively for use in Saudi Arabia. Over time, several denominations were issued, including 10 and 100 rupees. The notes were not legal tender within Pakistan and were strictly for use abroad. The Haj Note system was eventually discontinued in 1978.
