TOKEN BACKGROUND:
Token used by “Collar & Reger” in Leadville, Colorado for 5C in trade circa 1915. Establishment was a cigar stand located at 502 Harrison Avenue as noted on the obverse.

Only two issues are listed under Collar & Reger; the brass 5C denomination shown here and a white metal 10C issue; both are rare. Pritchard lists a survival rate of 8 and 4, respectively.

"Once a front-runner in becoming the state capital. Horace and Baby Doe Tabor had a mine in Leadville and you can still visit their house which is now a museum. The mine, called the Matchless Mine was the place where a destitute Baby Doe Tabor was found frozen to death. Doc Holliday also frequented Leadville as a gambler.
