Bright pinkish-rose surfaces are virtually pristine and support a full strike. Medals of this type were sponsored by Utah and sold in the state's building on the exposition grounds. Copper impressions, as here, are struck on planchets made from metal mined in the state.

Provenance: From the Henry Edward Collection. Earlier ex Jeff Shevlin Collection.

Purpose: "To prove to...world...enormous value of Alaska to United States and...greatness of its entry port, Seattle"; to exhibit "...development, resources, products and advantages" of State of Washington.

Sponsored by State of Utah and sold in Utah Building on grounds. Copper version has Virgin Utah Copper (not incuse) on reverse at lower left border and microscopic Dieges & Clust. N. Y. is at lower right border.
