Owner Comments:
Bronze prutah, Caesarea Maritima mint, AD 26-36. Pontius Pilatus, Prefect of Judaea. OBV: TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC, Lituus (augur's wand) / date illegible within wreath. The coins of the infamous Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, reveal his determination to promote the Roman religion in Judaea. Unlike his predecessors, who avoided offending the Jewish people, Pilate deliberately offended Jewish sensibilities with the images on his coins.
