MEDAL APPEARANCE/CONDITION:
TOP POP: Brilliant Gem+ — (Slabbed In Oversized Holder)
*Exceptional high-relief strike and incredibly well-preserved for such a large piece; The detail/design of the specimen is truly a marvel to behold - Only known example graded by NGC.*
MEDAL BACKGROUND:
Interestingly, the obverse design is identical to that of the 1982 ANA Midyear Convention in Colorado Springs (ANA-82.CM36) and the 1984 ANA Midwinter Convention in Colorado Springs (ANA-84.CB78). According to the design originally used by the Broadmoor Hotel to celebrate the opening of its West facility and the hotel's hosting of the World Figure Skating Championships in 1975 However, this large 51mm was issued 6 years prior to 1982 and 8 before 1984. It does not appear to be associated with the American Numismatic Association. This makes one wonder if the design was later adopted by the ANA for the respective conventions. In either case, I have yet to come across another example of this issue. The mintage number is likely to be extremely small; making the piece all the more rare.

Struck by the Medallic Art Company in Danbury, Connecticut. Issues from this era of the company are limited and scarcer than issues from New York. The M.A.C.O. was based in New York from 1903-1972 when they then moved to Danbury. In just 19 short years, the company moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1991 then to Dayton, Nevada in 1997. This issue recognizes 'Au Revoir Charles Court' which is an elegant restaurant and enhancement to the Broadmoor West Building. It officially opened on April 3, 1976, as noted on the reverse of the medal.
