ANA MEDAL APPEARANCE/CONDITION:
TOP POP: Choice Brilliant Gem — Pedigreed #150 (Noted on Edge of Medal and Original Display Case)
*An absolutely stunning, near perfect example of this historic ANA Colorado Springs issue. The details on the legends/devices are sharp/defined. Even the uniface reverse shows almost no contact marks or hairlines. — Only 350 medals were struck for the convention; all were originally numbered on the display cases they were sold in. This particular example is pedigreed #150 (of 350); indicating a mid-range overall serial number which typically equates to a better overall strike as exhibited by its grade of MS-68.*
ANA MEDAL BACKGROUND:
Issued for the 1982 A.N.A. 4th Midyear Convention which was held at the The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs from February 18-21, 1982.
—————
There are 3 versions of this issue. They are as follows:
- ANA-82.CB75, Bronze, Badge (MACO BRONZE on edge): 1,000 Issued Raw for $5
- ANA-82.CM36, Bronze, Medal (1981 MACO - BRONZE on edge): 350 Issued in Blue Plexiglass Holder for $7.50
- ANA-82.CM36a, Nickel-Silver, Medal (1981 MACO - NICKEL SILVER on edge): 150 Issued in 2-Part Box
This issue is ANA-82.CM36 medal, of which just 350 were struck (this being #150). However, an interesting historic fact regarding the ANA-82.CB75 badge variety (1,000 issued; distinguished by MACO - BRONZE without 1981 on the edge) is as follows: “An unknown number of ANA-82.CB75 badges were engraved with “1984" and reissued for the 1984 Midwinter Convention of which the same design was used. Of the original 1,000, 86 were disassembled and refinished for issuance as complimentary appreciation pieces.” — Credited Source: “Catalog of American Numismatic Association Convention Badges and Medals” 2006 Edition.
