Almost Uncirculated+ — Round (Crescent Cutout)
*An illusive issue with just one example known to exist. Even wear gives character to this historic issue, while chocolate brown and light tan surfaces highlight the detail of the legends/words. - The crescent shaped cut-out was part of the original design/strike and is an interesting/unique addition to the specimen.*

Token used by the Cameo Mercantile Company (general merchandise) in MacGregor, Colorado for 10C in trade circa 1917 (general merchandise).

Another extremely rare token. Initially thought to be an unlisted issue from Cameo, Colorado as indicated by the Cameo Mercantile Company. Even NGC notes the token’s city as Cameo. However, upon further examination of the token itself, “MacGregor, Colo.” is listed on the obverse. When researching the issue, it is indeed listed as a variety in Pritchard’s guide with a survival rate of just “one.” Pritchard currently has just 5 token issues listed from MacGregor, Colorado; all of which are from the Cameo Mercantile Company (5C, 10C in brass & white metal, 25C and 50C). The 10C variety is the only issue with two varieties; white metal and brass. They each have a survival rate of 2 and 1, respectively. Therefore, not only is this issue just rare, it is estimated just “one” example exists (you’re looking at it), it’s the rarer of 2 10C varieties, and comes from a very small town where just 5 token types were ever issued. Although the 10C brass variety is listed in Pritchard, the CMT guide (Colorado Merchant Tokens) lists the white metal 10C variety as M100b but not the brass. — This is a fascinating piece of Colorado history; particularly in the problem-free grade of AU-55.

Upon extensive research, there is virtually nothing listed about the town of MacGregor, Colorado online, in Prichard’s guide, or in the Colorado Merchant Token guide. Likely a small town that only existed for a short period of time during the early 20th century.
