WORLD ANA MEDAL APPEARANCE/CONDITION:
TOP-POP: Perfect 70 Proof — Designated “Early Releases” by NGC
*An absolutely stunning, “perfect” example of this fascinating issue in PF-70 Ultra Cameo. Milky white mirrored fields reflect light brilliantly as the sharp/defined devices contrast in what appears to be three-dimensional.*

Initially, I was hesitant about pursuing this series of coins since they were not minted in the U.S. Were they still relevant to the Colorado set? Upon much thought, I decided they absolutely ‘had’ to be included. The primary goal of this set is as follows: ‘To obtain any numismatic specimen minted in and/or having ‘any’ association with the state of Colorado. Further, to teach people about Colorado's rich history, as well as myself, through the tool of numismatic education.’ Not only does this series hit all the marks, it allows viewers to see the history behind a Chinese series and how it relates to not just an important event in numismatics (The World’s Fair of Money), but also that it took place right here in Denver, Colorado circa 2017. From a historical perspective, it’s absolutely fascinating and exciting being able to include an international series of coins from China that’s specific to Denver, Colorado. I learned a great deal throughout the process which circles right back to the original goal. Therefore, I sought after the series and included them.

HONORING THE PAST – “The obverse of this 2017 Silver World Money Fair Panda Proof medal borrows a two-panda design from the 2006 design, which was used the last time that Denver hosted the event. The reverse honors two historic pieces, the 1987 Sin-Japanese Panda and the 1860 Clark Gruber & Co. Pike’s Peak $10 Territorial Gold Coin, on which the word “DENVER” features prominently.” — Credited Source: GovMint.com

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
“PandaAmerica, the California-based American distributor of Chinese Panda coins, issued several medals in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money in Denver. The show was scheduled from Aug. 1 to 5. Three silver versions were made available (1oz, 30g and piefort 39g), as well as two ringed-trimetallic versions (30mm and 30mm piefort), struck from copper, brass, and copper-nickel. — Of the three reverse designs, one depicts a legend that celebrates the ANA show connection and the ANA’s 126th anniversary. The second variety details the skyline of the Rocky Mountains with a train roaring by. The third variety depicts the city of Denver with the Rocky Mountains in the background. The medals were designed by an unnamed artist working at the Shanghai Mint, where they were struck. — In addition to garnering a licensing fee for its use of the ANA name, the medals expanded the ANA’s international exposure, especially in Asia, according to William Graessle, director of business development at PandaAmerica. ‘[These medals are] a permanent part of the Panda collection for not just this year, but future years too,’ he said. — The primary ANA reverse commemorative medal was limited to a mintage of 5,000. The two standard examples had mintage limits of 888 pieces each, and the piedfort versions (double thickness and weight) were limited to mintages of 100 each.” — Credited Source: Coin World

(2017 ANA WORLD’S FAIR OF MONEY BACKGROUND - DENVER, CO):
“The American Numismatic Association ANA - www.money.org World's Fair of Money (WFOM) 126th Convention was held at the Colorado Convention Center, in Denver, CO on August 01 - 5, 2017. The last ANA WFOM held in Denver was in 2006, and that convention had no official auction and was held in the very back of the convention center This event had two, a Heritage Auctions (www.HA.com) and a Stacks-Bowers (www.stacksbowers.com) Auction. Both of these auctions had thousands of lots which realized tens of millions of dollars in sales. The majority of items in all the sales sold for excellent prices. This World’s Fair of Money was held in the front of the convention center on the second floor.
——-
The convention had over 500 bourse tables, which included 21 club tables; eight government agencies (which feature the annual World Mint Passport), the U.S. Mint (with a special set of coins which drew large crowds trying to purchase them) and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing – BEP (with their special drawing for the Spider Press Prints), the U. S.
