Owner Comments:

In 1992, the new Republic of Hungary coinage was released for circulation. Coins of 1, 2, and 5 forint were made available, however, only 2000 pieces of the 10, 20, 50, and 100 forint denominations were released, exclusively in mint sets. These 1992 mint sets are now exceedingly rare and expensive, and even moreso are the 1992 proof sets, for which only 1000 pieces were produced.

This is the 100 forint pattern. 50 pieces were struck.

This design was ultimately unpopular due to the large size of the coin, and it was replaced by a smaller size bi-metallic coin in 1996 (although mint set only issues of this type were produced in 1997 and 1998).
