Owner Comments:

This proof strike of the 1996 100 forint pattern is one of the first bimetallic pieces struck in Hungarian coinage. This type replaced the large unpopular 100 forint type of 1992-1996. 50 pieces were struck.

What's interesting about this pattern is the finish, as noted in the grade (PL 68), this coin was struck with Hungary's prooflike collector finish, which in 1996 was informally used for mint set issues exclusively. As this was a circulating type, this pattern may have simply been struck with this finish to give it a nice appearance as a specimen.
