This specific variety had a limited mintage of only 1,000 coins. However, there is a strong indication that this number was never met, as only 58 pieces have been graded by NGC. — The obverse: Features a close-up of an adult elephant with his trunk reaching out towards the rim of the coin. In the background are two birds in flight and a leafless tree. At this time, this was the new design for the 2018 elephant coins. The reverse: Displays the Somalian Coat of Arms and the 2017 date along with the face value of 100 shillings. — Minted at the Bavarian State Mint in Germany. — The privy mark shows the Denver skyline with the Rockies in the background.

A major draw was the Denver ANA privy, — Numerous other varieties (with different privy marks) from 2017 exist. However, just a handful are struck with the ANA Denver privy. — This specific example being the finest known to exist, graded by NGC at PL-70, tied with “no” others.

“The Somali Shilling is the official currency of Somalia. Due to inflation though, regular cash circulation in the country is handled not by coins but mostly by banknotes and foreign currency.

The country has also authorised the Bavarian Central Mint to issue bullion coins under its jurisdiction. The African Wildlife Series, started in 1999 for Zambia and continued since 2004 for Somalia, features a new design every year and has become very popular with collectors and bullion investors worldwide. The coins are in standard bullion sizes, such as one ounce of silver - designated as 1 oz Ag, where Ag is abbreviated from Argentum, the Latin word for silver.
