LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION 1904, ST. LOUIS, MO INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO. DOLLAR

THERE ARE ONLY (5) MS 66'S FINER IN THE NGC CENSUS AS OF 3/2024.

An interesting souvenir with both American and Canadian connections. Manufactured by the International Nickel Company, with a bearded bust of Joseph Wharton adorning the obverse. Wharton was one of the founders of both the International Nickel Company and Bethlehem Steel. He successfully lobbied to have the U.S. government strike coins in nickel in the 1860s. The International Nickel Company (Inco) was formed in New York City in 1902 and incorporated in Canada in 1916, quickly becoming the world’s largest producer of nickel.
